ICG2016_23The Goat (Chinese: 羊; pinyin: yáng) is the eighth sign of the 12-year cycle of animals that appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar.

The Year of the Goat starts from February 19th, 2015 (The Lunar New year / Spring Festival of China) and lasts until February 7th, 2016.
In Chinese astrology, goats are described as loving-peace and “kind” and “popular”. With the addition of the wood element, the goat characteristic is thought to love peace and to be helpful and trusting, but yet also to be “clinging” and of a nature resistant to change.

Sometimes this year, we are likely to hear some people say, “We are in 2015, Year of the Wood Goat!”. So, let’s think about what we know of this animal in general. Goats are extremely curious and quite intelligent. The energy of the goat is one of foraging. This energy represents the ability to take any resource and make it useful. This goat energy will take the leftovers from one source and turn them into a feast for another.

Goats have the ability to climb and maintain their balance even in precarious places. They cleverly find their way out of pens and past fences. The goat represents the energy of always climbing, always working towards a better goal.

Goats will do whatever it takes to get out of a trapped situation, and/or to seek out the places here the grass indeed is greener. Goats see how just a little effort can lead to a life of peace and prosperity. Goats are willing to make the effort to have a better life.
